Create & Celebrate Around the World!

globeCreate and Celebrate will be held Thursday, April 24 from 6:30 to 8 pm in the Gregory Heights cafeteria. Our school community is quite diverse and many of us are eager to learn more about cultures all around the world. We made a plan. We're going to create several projects. A project for each continent. For each project we need a point person with at least one--if not two--persons helping. These projects will be inclusive of arts/ crafts, games, activities and displays of anything relevant to that countries/ continents cultures. FUN!!!

Everyone loves to share foods. Ethnic foods like taquitos, even chips and salsa for North America. Fruit salad with mangos, oranges, watermelon etc., from Central and South America. Foods from Europe are simple and easy--cheese and crackers. Middle East--pitas and hummus! Africa--animal crackers! Asia--assorted varieties of finger foods. Simple and easy shopping at Costco would take care of this for the most part.

We need people who want to have fun crafting and playing games. There was talk of physically active games played a couple of years ago, but we didn't get the names. Do you remember any of those?

We need set-up and decorating tables and welcoming signs in several languages. If we can get a mike maybe we can have some storytellers? Folktales from around the world. I know the King County Library system has professional storytellers. I could call and see who we might find. And if there is anyone in our GH community that has this talent and would like to share it with us, that would be WONDERFUL.

Here are the ideas we have. This is a work in progress. We will meet again immediately following Spring Break. Please feel free to suggest more crafts and games you know of and would like to present. We would rather have a few highly effective crafts and games than too many with too few volunteers. We're leaning toward activities which are inclusive, promote dialogue, FUN, colorful and entertaining.
