Chess Club News - January 2008 In chess club, the students have started using the *ladder. The ladder is where students challenge another opponent. If they win their match, they move up on the ladder. The ideal is to get students ready for chess tournaments. Players who are consistently in the top ten spots will make up our GH A and B team and will compete at the district tournament. Last year we came in second, which was very exciting. However, this year we plan to come in first. Watch out, Marvista! Muhoohoohaha! Also, in regard to tournaments, we are in the process of ordering shirts. Students will be asked to wear their shirts on tournament days or special chess events. Finally, we would like to take this opportunity to remind parents that it is their responsibility to make sure your child is attending chess and enjoying chess. If your child does not want to be at chess club, please respect his or her wishes and drop from the club. It is not fair to your child or the students that enjoy playing. Also, please be respectful to our volunteers and pick your child up promptly at 4 pm. Our volunteers have busy lives and can’t stay afterwards. The school office is closed at 4 pm, so please try not to be late. Thank you for your attention to this. *Note: Not all students opt to play the ladder. |
